We pray...That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge
…that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:17-19

DAY 1—God’s grace doesn’t set us free to sin. It sets us free from sin.

The greatest force that might work to keep us from knowing the fullness of God’s grace is the sin that came to us from Adam. If allowed, this sin will try to rule us even after we have trusted the Lord Jesus as Savior. But, the Apostle Paul found that the grace that came through Jesus has a greater power than the sin that came through Adam. Paul expressed it well in Romans 6:14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

In the Greek New Testament, the word for sin has a Definite Article with it. So does the word for death. This would make the passage read “the sin” and “the death.”

Paul made first reference to this in Romans 5:12. Wherefore, as by one man—that is, through Adamthe sin entered into the world, and the death by the sin; and so the death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

The root of all sin and the beginning of all death came into the world by that one man Adam. The rebellion against God began with a fullness that would end in hopelessness, were it not for the greater fullness that came by the Lord Jesus.

  • Romans 5:15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
  • NIrV®Many people died because of the sin of that one man (Adam). But it was even more sure that God’s grace would also come through one man. That man is Jesus Christ. God’s gift of grace was more than enough for the whole world.

O, GREAT REDEEMER, what a wonder that You have loved me enough to take my sin! And, not my sin only, but the sin of every person who ever lived. I am only beginning to know the fullness of the salvation You brought into my own soul. And now, my heart is beginning to know that this fullness is for every person in the world. Please give me a heart of concern for all for whom the Lord Jesus died.
